Activities

(Region of the reserve damaged due to deforestation)
Over the current years we have been working to protect the endemic animals and nature reserves in the Dominican Republic. To accomplish this we have gone on various different excursions to promote reforestation. Bahoruco Oriental has caught our attention because it is the home of various endemic species and plants, which are being affected by multiple forms of deforestation such as mining and pollution. We are currently raising awareness to the community of people in Santo Domingo and Bahoruco.
These are some of the possible activities that can be done in order to help Bahoruco Oriental:
  1.  Put up signs to show the borders of the protected area.
  2.  Reforestation
  3. Make nurseries for endemic plant species
  4.  Remove invasive plants/animals that threaten the endemic plant species
  5. Investigate different species by helping  gather data about the plant and animal species
  6. Have campaigns to raise awareness about this protected area
  7. Make  pamphlets for the protected area
  8. Make maps of the protected area
  9. Educate the inhabitants about biodiversity
  10.  Monitor species – (i.e. in some seasons of the year, bird migrations)

In addition, the natural reserve hosts a reforestation every year
in the month of October .
