Who are we?

(Bahoruco Natural Reserve)

We are a group of students from the American School of Santo Domingo (ASSD) with the goal of protecting endemic species and our natural reserves. We are currently contributing to the Bahoruco Natural Reserve on their project to protect their natural reserve. Various organizations throughout the world such as universities and researchers travel to Bahoruco Oriental Natural Reserve to study the plants and animals, which are only found in this reserve. We are trying to build a suitable habitat for these species by forming an alliance with Bahoruco Oriental Natural Reserve, along with other companies. We are mostly helping to raise awareness of the species affected by mining and deforestation.
This is our plan to protect Bahoruco Oriental:
  1.   Put up signs to show the borders of the protected area.
  2.   Reforestation
  3.  Make nurseries for endemic plant species
  4.  Remove invasive plants/animals that threaten the endemic plant species
  5. Investigate different species by helping  gather data of plant and animal species such as birds and amphibians
  6. Have campaigns to raise awareness about this protected area
  7. Make  pamphlets of the protected area
  8. Make maps of the protected area
  9. Educating the inhabitants about the biodiversity
  10.  Monitor species – (i.e. in some seasons of the year, bird migrations)

If you wish to help in any way feel free to contact us.
(Trip to El Mogote)

Along with the Bahoruco project we have done other activities with our school to protect and maintain the ecosystems of the Dominican Republic. We have gone to El Mogote to clean the mountains and done reforestation in Monte Plata.
